Warhawks Excel on Pickwick Lake, Qualify for National Championship
Florence, AL – On Friday, October 3, 2025, Calhoun bass-fishing competed in the Abu Garcia College Fishing event, under the larger Major League Fishing umbrella, on Pickwick Lake in Florence, AL. The tournament, part of the MLF College Fishing circuit, drew hundreds of collegiate anglers from across the region.
Matthew Tucker and Wilson York teamed up to weigh in 16 lbs, 13 oz, earning 39th place out of 250 boats and qualifying for the Abu Garcia College Fishing National Championship this February in Columbia, SC. Fishing solo, Will McCullar also brought in 14 lbs, 14 oz, finishing 75th out of the 250 boat field.
Calhoun's other boats faced challenges, catching fish that didn't meet Pickwick Lake's higher size limit, which is far stricter than many other lakes in the circuit.
Head Coach Doug Ezzell praised the team and the tournament, saying, "This was a well-run, professional event. Matt and Wilson put together a great day on the water, and Will did an excellent job as well. It's exciting to see our anglers competing at such a high level, and I'm proud of how the team represented Calhoun."
Calhoun will now await their next event schedule to be released to find out where on the circuit they will compete next.
