Doug Ezzell enters his fourth season as head coach of the Calhoun Bass Fishing Team, having led the program to one of its most successful years in 2024 with a qualification and appearance at the Bassmaster College National Championship. Since taking over the program in January 2022, Ezzell has helped elevate Calhoun Bass Fishing into a competitive force, while also guiding student-athletes as they transition to four-year institutions.

Under his leadership, several Warhawk anglers have gone on to continue their careers at programs such as Auburn University and the University of North Alabama. Ezzell brings a steady and experienced presence to the program, emphasizing sportsmanship, consistency, and personal development on and off the water.

Prior to joining Calhoun, Ezzell served as the head coach of the Athens High School Bass Team from 2014 to 2020, where he helped grow the program into a well-respected name on the high school fishing circuit. He also has decades of experience mentoring young athletes, having coached youth soccer, baseball, basketball, and softball over the years.

Ezzell retired in 2021 following a 32-year career with the Alabama Forestry Commission. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Forestry.

Originally from north Alabama, Ezzell lives in Athens with his wife of 33 years, Emily. They have two children: Lauren, who is pursuing her Ph.D. at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Connor, a 2023 graduate of Auburn University. In addition to coaching, Ezzell currently serves as Worship Leader at The Church at River Mill.
