Men's Soccer Drops Road Contest to Wallace State
Decatur, AL – Warhawk Men's Soccer fell 3-1 to Wallace State on Saturday afternoon, with the Warhawks' lone goal coming via a Wallace own goal in the second half.
The match began on the wrong foot for Calhoun, as the hosts converted off of a penalty inside the opening minutes and quickly doubled their lead after a defensive miscue. The Warhawks grew into the match late in the first half, generating momentum and finishing the opening period strongly.
The second half belonged largely to Calhoun, who spent much of the final 45 minutes in Wallace territory. Their persistence was rewarded when the Warhawks broke down the wing and sent a dangerous cross into the box. In an attempt to clear, a Wallace defender redirected the ball into his own net to bring the Warhawks within one.
Calhoun pressed hard for an equalizer, creating multiple chances but unable to find the finishing touch. Wallace State sealed the result late when a long clearance set up a breakaway that led to their third and final goal.
"We showed a lot of fight in the second half," said Head Coach Felix Obilo. "We've learned some hard lessons from our slow starts, but there are a few details we need to clean up. Once we begin matches with the same intensity we finish with, we'll put ourselves in position to win."
Calhoun (0-4) will return home on Thursday, September 18, for a 6 p.m. match at Jack Allen Recreation Complex.
