Baseball Drops Series, Wins in Extras at Snead
Decatur, AL / Boaz, AL — Calhoun baseball faced a tough test in Alabama Community College Conference play this past week, dropping three of four games in a series against Snead State.
Calhoun opened the series at home on Thursday before traveling to Boaz for the final two games on Saturday.
Game 1 – Snead State 14, Calhoun 3 (7 innings)
Snead State used big middle innings to pull away in the opener, scoring three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth before adding three more in the seventh to secure a run-rule victory.
Calhoun managed nine hits in the contest, led by Adam Yazel's 3-for-4 performance and Noah Alburquerque's 3-for-3 day with an RBI. Seth Walton drove in two runs for the Warhawks.
Defensive miscues proved costly, as errors helped extend multiple innings for the Parsons.
Game 2 – Snead State 6, Calhoun 3
The Warhawks battled in game two and carried a 3-2 lead into the late innings before Snead State rallied.
After seven strong innings from Josh Burrell, who allowed just two runs, the Parsons broke through with a four-run eighth inning to take control and secure the 6-3 win.
Austin Williamson accounted for Calhoun's RBI totals, driving in two runs, while Seth Walton and William Singewald each scored.
Game 3 – Calhoun 9, Snead State 8 (10 innings)
Calhoun responded in dramatic fashion in game three, outlasting Snead State 9-8 in a 10-inning battle.
The Warhawks produced runs in nearly every inning, finishing with 13 hits and six walks in a complete team offensive effort. Noah Alburquerque led the way with three hits and two RBI, while Taisuky Rodriguez added two RBI and Trent Wilson scored twice.
Gavin Gonzalez provided a key swing with a home run, and William Singewald added two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, multiple Warhawks contributed in a bullpen effort, with Tatum Sivley closing out the contest to secure the extra-inning victory.
Game 4 – Snead State 11, Calhoun 1 (6 innings)
The Parsons jumped out early in the series finale, scoring seven runs in the first inning and never looking back in an 11-1 run-rule win.
Calhoun plated their lone run in the first inning on a solo home run from Seth Walton, but struggled to generate consistent offense the rest of the way.
Noah Alburquerque recorded two hits, while Austin Williamson added a double.
Head coach Cameron Chafetz noted the team's resilience despite the series outcome. "It's not the weekend we wanted, but there was a ton of fight from our guys, especially in that third game," Chafetz said. "They battled all the way through, kept answering, and gave everything they had to come out with that win. That's the kind of effort we need to carry forward, now it's about putting together a more complete weekend."
Calhoun will return to action on Thursday, March 26, traveling to face Coastal Alabama South.
