Holmes Cards Eagle at Ron Marshall Spring Fling
Scottsboro, AL – Calhoun men's golf competed Monday and Tuesday at the Ron Marshall Spring Fling hosted at Goose Pond Colony Resort, finishing 10th overall in a competitive field while producing several strong individual performances.
The two-day, three-round event featured nearly 100 golfers from across the region, providing a challenging test for the Warhawks against a deep field of competition.
Sophomore Jesse Kilgore turned in the most impressive performance of the week for Calhoun. Kilgore shot par or better in two of the three rounds and finished the tournament at an even-par cumulative score across the 54-hole event. His steady play throughout the tournament earned him a fourth-place finish individually, placing him among the top performers in the field.
Sammy Holmes also delivered a highlight moment for the Warhawks during the second round. Holmes carded an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, showcasing the type of scoring ability that helped him remain competitive throughout the tournament, ultimately finishing tied for 27th overall.
AJ Bradford contributed another solid showing for Calhoun, finishing 32nd in the field after consistently working his way through difficult scoring conditions and a strong lineup of competitors.
Jackson Yeager also represented the Warhawks at the event while competing as an individual entry. Yeager matched Holmes with a tie for 27th place, giving Calhoun three golfers inside the top 30 of the nearly 100-player field.
Jayce Hutchens and Reece Hardiman rounded out the travel squad for Calhoun as the Warhawks battled through the three-round tournament at the scenic Goose Pond Colony course.
While the team result did not reflect the program's expectations, the event still produced encouraging performances for Calhoun heading into the next stretch of the spring schedule.
Head coach Richard Morgan said the tournament served as a valuable learning opportunity for the group as they continue to develop consistency across the lineup. "We played well at times, but not well enough as a full group," Morgan said. "That was a really tough field, and we just weren't at our peak this week. We had some outstanding individual performances, especially from Jesse, but for us to compete for team titles we need everyone clicking at the same time. I still saw a lot of good things that we can build on moving forward."
Calhoun will return to competition on Monday and Tuesday, March 16–17, when the Warhawks travel to the Enterprise State Invitational.
