Women's Basketball Falls at #16 Wallace State
Hanceville, AL – Calhoun women's basketball ran into a tough test Monday night, falling 80-35 on the road at nationally ranked #16 Wallace State.
Facing one of the top teams in the country, the Warhawks struggled to find rhythm on either end of the floor. From the opening tip, Wallace State controlled the tempo, applying defensive pressure and converting turnovers into transition opportunities. Calhoun was unable to settle in offensively, and the Lions steadily built separation throughout the first half.
Jasmine Ervin, who has been a focal point of Calhoun's offense all season, was met with constant double teams in the post. The defensive attention limited her touches and disrupted the Warhawks' ability to establish their inside-out game. Without consistent production on the block, Calhoun struggled to generate clean perimeter looks, and neither side of the floor ever fully found momentum.
Defensively, the Warhawks were unable to contain Wallace State's balanced attack. The Lions moved the ball efficiently, knocked down perimeter shots, and capitalized on second-chance opportunities to extend their lead. Each time Calhoun looked to string together a positive stretch, Wallace State responded with a run of its own.
The second half brought more of the same, as the Lions maintained their intensity and continued to pressure the Warhawks into difficult possessions. Despite continued effort, Calhoun could not cut into the deficit and ultimately fell by a final score of 80-35.
Calhoun now sits at (13-15, 4-9) on the season and will look to regroup as the regular season winds down. The Warhawks return home Thursday, March 5, for their final regular-season contest against Bishop State (12-17, 4-9). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Kelley Gymnasium, with the program hosting a blackout game to close out the regular season schedule.
