Softball Achieves First Win Under Bowling
Dothan, AL – Calhoun softball earned their first win of the 2026 season Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, defeating Georgia Military College 14-6 in six innings to close opening weekend play in Dothan. The victory marked the first win for the Warhawks under first-year head coach Denton Bowling.
Calhoun opened the season Tuesday, Feb. 3, with a road doubleheader at Central Alabama Community College, dropping both games by identical 3-2 scores. The Warhawks remained competitive throughout the day, including pushing one contest into eight innings against the No. 15 nationally ranked Division II program.
The Warhawks then traveled to Dothan for four games across Friday and Saturday. Calhoun fell to Miami Dade, 9-2, and Florida Southwestern, 8-2, on Friday before opening Saturday with a narrow 3-1 loss to Lake Land College. The weekend concluded on a high note with Saturday's run-rule win over Georgia Military College.
Calhoun's offense broke through in a big way in the finale, scoring 14 runs on 14 hits to secure the program's first win of the season.
Madison Allen led the Warhawks with a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored, and two RBI. Addison Wallace added a triple and drove in four runs, while Emily Burgreen delivered a standout performance, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, four runs scored, and three RBI.
Keara Hall added a triple and scored twice, Tessa Jacobs doubled and drove in a run, and Morgan Lane chipped in an RBI double as Calhoun consistently applied pressure throughout the lineup.
In the circle, Addi Wilson earned the win, tossing a complete six innings while allowing six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. Wilson worked out of multiple jams and helped seal the win as the Warhawks pulled away late.
After the game, Head Coach Denton Bowling reflected on earning his first win at Calhoun. "I'm proud of how this group has stayed and grown together," Bowling said. "We've been right there in every game, and today we finally put it all together. This is a big step for us, and it's something we can build on moving forward."
Calhoun will now travel to Cleveland State on Tuesday, Feb. 10, for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
