Warhawks Rout Pellissippi Behind Pyles’ Six Triples
Decatur, AL — Calhoun Women's Basketball delivered one of their most complete performances of the season on Saturday, defeating Pellissippi State 68–45 at home.
The Warhawks got off to a slow start, allowing the Panthers to stay within reach through the first quarter and into the early minutes of the second. Midway through the period, however, Calhoun found their rhythm on both ends of the floor and used a decisive 23-8 second quarter to build a 15-point lead at halftime.
Pellissippi State showed some pushback in the third quarter, but never enough to threaten the Warhawks' control of the game. Calhoun's defense tightened further in the fourth, holding the Panthers to just five points to secure the dominant victory.
Sophomore guard Victoria Pyles led all scorers with 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers at a 50% clip. Jasmine Ervin added a powerful double-double, posting 16 points and 14 rebounds on 7-for-12 shooting. Gabrielle Stigger directed the offense and anchored the perimeter defense, finishing with five assists and three steals, each one leading directly to points for the Warhawks.
Head Coach Candace Byrd praised the team's growth and energy. "This was the performance we've been waiting for, and the kind of effort we need to continue bringing every night," Byrd said. "Tori shot the ball extremely well, and I'm really proud of Gabby's aggressiveness on the defensive end, she created multiple opportunities that turned into points. We'll look to build on this as we head into Monday."
Calhoun (4–3) will now travel to Columbia State (TN) for a 2 p.m. matchup on Monday, November 24.
