Buckner's Double-Double Not Enough in Loss at Pearl River
Poplarville, MS — Calhoun women's basketball fell on the road Tuesday, dropping a 60–47 matchup against Pearl River. The Warhawks went toe-to-toe early, trailing by just two after the opening quarter, and then turning in a strong defensive effort in the second by holding Pearl River to only seven points to take a four point lead into the break.
The second half, however, swung in the Wildcats' favor. Pearl River outscored Calhoun 40–22 over the final two periods, capitalizing on Warhawk turnovers and disrupting Calhoun's offensive rhythm. The Warhawks committed 20 turnovers and finished with just four assists, struggling to move the ball effectively against the Wildcats' pressure.
Sophomore guard Farrah Buckner delivered a standout performance, recording a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore forward Jamya Glover controlled the paint for Calhoun, finishing with 15 points and six blocks.
Head Coach Candace Byrd noted the need for cleaner execution and sustained intensity. "We have to take much better care of the ball, and we need to move it with more purpose in our offense," Byrd said. "We played a strong first half, but we have to match that effort and consistency all the way through."
Calhoun (3-3) returns home Saturday to host Pellissippi State (TN) at 1 p.m.
