Women's Basketball Falls at Itawamba, 56-46
Itawamba, MS – Calhoun women's basketball dropped a tough game on the road Thursday night, falling 56–46 to Itawamba in a contest where the Warhawks shot the ball well but couldn't generate enough scoring runs to keep pace.
Calhoun opened the night with a slow offensive start, managing just nine points in the first quarter. Despite shooting 48 percent from the field as a team, the Warhawks struggled to string together possessions that turned good looks into sustained momentum. Their best stretch came in the third quarter, where they put up 16 points and briefly cut into the Itawamba lead before the offense cooled again in the fourth with only six points.
Victoria Pyles led Calhoun with nine points, while Jasmine Ervin anchored the interior with a strong 11-rebound performance. Kamora Simpson gave the Warhawks a spark off the bench, scoring seven points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night.
Head Coach Candace Byrd said the team made progress in certain areas but still has work to do. "We did a better job with some things tonight, especially at the free throw line. Shooting eighty percent is closer to where we want to be. But at the end of the day, we have to put more points on the board if we want to compete at the level the ACCC demands," Byrd said.
Calhoun (3-2) now turns the page quickly, traveling to Pearl River on Monday, November 17, for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
