Women's Basketball Cruises Past Roane State, 85-53
Harriman, TN – Calhoun women's basketball continued their strong start to the season with a dominant 85–53 road win over Roane State on Saturday. The Warhawks set the tone early, racing to a 35–15 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 53–24 by halftime.
Calhoun's energy and execution on both ends of the floor were evident from the start, as they controlled the tempo and limited Roane State's offensive rhythm. With the game in hand by halftime, the Warhawks were able to rotate in a deep bench during the second half while maintaining steady control throughout.
Sophomore forward Jasmine Ervin led the way with a quiet but dominant 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Victoria Pyles added 13 points and six boards. Farrah Buckner contributed 10 points and six rebounds as well in a balanced team performance.
Head Coach Candace Byrd praised her team's continued improvement but emphasized that the group is still building toward its full potential. "We're still working to find our rhythm," Byrd said. "Each game, our players are showing progress and buying into what we're trying to do. I'd like to see more production from our bench, and we have to be sharper with our shooting and free throws. But I love the effort, and I know this group will put in the work to get there."
Calhoun (3-1) will look to keep building momentum when they travel to Itawamba (MS) on Thursday, November 13 for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
