Stigger's 17 Leads Women's Basketball Past Snead State
Boaz, AL – Calhoun Women's Basketball earned a 64-57 road victory at Snead State on Thursday night, using a composed second-half surge to take control of the game. The Warhawks trailed 14-11 after the opening quarter, but settled in and outscored the Parsons 19-14 in the second to take a 30-28 lead into halftime.
Calhoun's confidence carried into the third quarter, where the offense began to flow through Gabrielle Stigger, who led all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-for-6 from three, while also grabbing six rebounds. The sophomore's efficiency helped fuel a stretch where the Warhawks built the lead to as many as 24 points before Snead State closed the gap late.
The Warhawks' presence on the glass also made a difference, with Jamya Glover posting a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Jasmine Ervin adding six points and seven boards. Victoria Pyles contributed 13 points and four rebounds, providing strong finishing and consistent free throw scoring. Off the bench, Mariah Crowell gave Calhoun another lift with eight points on 2-of-3 shooting.
Head Coach Candace Byrd said the group's composure was key. "We were a little hesitant early, but once we settled in, we started to dictate the pace," Byrd said. "Our rebounding and defensive pressure gave us opportunities to push the ball and get easier looks. We built that big lead because we were connected and disciplined. We still have things to clean up late-game, but this was a tough road win and a good step forward."
Calhoun (2-1) will now travel to Roane State (TN) on Saturday, November 8, for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
