Men's Soccer Concludes Inaugural Regular Season
Decatur, AL – Calhoun men's soccer wrapped up their inaugural regualr season with a pair of road matches over the weekend, falling 9-1 at Copiah-Lincoln on Friday, October 17, and 2-1 at Southern Union on Sunday, October 19.
Friday's matchup against Co-Lin proved to be a difficult one for the Warhawks. After hosting the Wolves earlier in the season and falling 1-0, this time it was Co-Lin that struck early, forcing Calhoun to chase the game from the opening minutes. James Brown netted the lone goal for the Warhawks in a match where they struggled to regain their footing.
Sunday's regular season finale at Southern Union was a much tighter contest. John Tettah opened the scoring to give Calhoun the early lead, and momentum was firmly on their side for much of the first half. However, a few unfortunate bounces shifted the flow of the match, allowing Southern Union to equalize and later take the lead. Calhoun had chances to level, including a missed penalty kick, but couldn't find the finishing touch.
Head Coach Felix Obilo reflected on the season with optimism for the future: "Every program has a first year," Obilo said. "This was a year of learning, growing, and laying the foundation for what's to come. I'm proud of how these guys battled, and I'm excited to get to work this offseason and build toward the program we want to be. We'll hit the ground running with recruiting and preparation for next year."
Calhoun finished its historic first regular season with a 2-11 record, scoring 18 goals across the campaign.
The Warhawks now advance to the conference post-season on Friday, October 24, where the team will travel to Millbrook, AL as the No. 4 seed to face No. 1 seed Wallace State at 4 p.m.
