Men's Golf Crowned Champions of ACCC Preview
Muscle Shoals, AL – Calhoun men's golf rose to the occasion this week, capturing the Alabama Community College Conference Preview Championship by three strokes at Cypress Lakes Country Club on October 6–7.
The event held extra meaning for the program, as Head Coach Richard Morgan previously served as the Director of Golf at Cypress Lakes, the very course where he helped shape its identity and name. Over three rounds, 36 holes Monday and 18 on Tuesday, the Warhawks delivered consistent, confident play to secure the program's return to the top of the leaderboard.
Calhoun opened strong with a team score of 282 (-2) in round one. Jayce Hutchens led the charge with a 67 (-4), followed by AJ Bradford at 69 (-2). Round two saw Jesse Kilgore step up with a 68 (-3), while Reece Hardiman and Bradford both posted solid 73s (+2). The team sealed the championship Tuesday with steady final-round performances, led by Hardiman's 72 (+1) and Bradford and Sammy Holmes each carding 73 (+2). Hardiman and Bradford both finished +2 overall. Clark Hayes also competed as an individual.
"This group has been working toward a moment like this for a long time," said Head Coach Richard Morgan. "To win on this course, a place that's special to me, makes it even more meaningful. We've had to grind, stay patient, and trust the process, and it's rewarding to see the guys put it all together when it mattered. This isn't just a one-time thing for us, this is the standard we're setting moving forward."
The Warhawks will look to build on their championship momentum when they return to action October 27–28 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Invitational in Gulfport, Mississippi.
