#24 Volleyball Defeats Snead State 3-1
Decatur, AL – In front of a loud and energetic home crowd at Kelley Gymnasium, the No. 24 Calhoun Warhawks earned a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Snead State on October 7, with set scores of 25–21, 34–36, 25–17, 25–22.
Snead State came ready to battle, making sacrificial defensive plays and laying it all on the line to keep rallies alive against a strong Warhawk attack. The second set was an intense back-and-forth duel, ultimately going to Snead after a remarkable 70 total points were played, evening the match at 1–1.
Calhoun responded with composure, dominating the third set and holding off a late Snead surge in the fourth to close out the match. Offensively, Ava Boyll led with 15 kills, while Avery Boyd added 12 and Alana Allison tallied 11 with an impressive .333 hitting percentage. Setter Maddie Schwabe paced the offense with 41 assists and added 4 aces, while Lucy Means anchored the back row with 33 digs.
Head Coach Jamiee Freeman praised both sides after the match. "I tip my cap to Snead for the way they competed," Freeman said. "Those girls fought as hard as anyone, and I'm so proud of how our group weathered the storm and matched their resilience. And I can't thank our other [athletic] programs enough for packing the gym and bringing so much energy, it made a huge difference for our girls."
The atmosphere inside Kelley Gymnasium was electric, with the men's and women's basketball, softball, baseball, and men's and women's cross country teams in attendance, creating a roaring environment that fueled the Warhawks.
No. 24 Calhoun (19–3) will return to action on Thursday, October 9, when they travel to Southern Union for a 4 p.m. match.
