Women's Soccer Knocks Off Gordon State
Barnesville, GA – Calhoun women's soccer picked up an impressive 2-1 road win over Gordon State College on Friday, October 3. The Warhawks struck first late in the opening half when Yoshari Chavez buried a deep shot to give Calhoun a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle, with both sides creating quality chances. Gordon State finally broke through in the 83rd minute to tie the match at 1-1. But Calhoun quickly responded when Chavez capitalized again just four minutes later, scoring the game-winner in the 87th minute to secure the victory.
The win snapped Gordon State's six-game win streak and handed the Highlanders (7-1) their first loss since August 26.
"This was a really good team," said Head Coach Andrew McCartney. "Playing on back-to-back days is never easy, and playing a team like that made it even harder. We have gotten so much better throughout this first season, and I'm excited to keep watching the girls come together."
The Warhawks (3-6) will return to action on Friday, October 10, when they travel to face Southern Union at 4 p.m.
