#23 Volleyball Continues Dominance, Sweeps Lawson State
Birmingham, AL – No. 23-ranked Calhoun Volleyball kept its momentum rolling Tuesday night, defeating Lawson State 25-15, 25-12, 25-22 on the road to extend their winning streak to six matches. Five of the Warhawks' last six wins have come in sweeps, and Tuesday's performance was dominant from start to finish, allowing the team to quickly return home with another victory.
Calhoun's offense was led by Allie Avena, who tallied nine kills and hit .471 for the match, and Laney Kelley, who added six kills on .500 hitting. Alana Allison contributed six kills with an efficient .600 hitting percentage, while Ava Boyll added two kills and four digs. The setters ran a balanced attack, with Maddie Schwabe distributing 16 assists and Amber Holshouser adding eight more. Defensively, Lucy Means anchored the back row with 15 digs, while the team totaled 40 digs and five aces.
Head Coach Jamiee Freeman was pleased with the win but emphasized areas for improvement. "This was a great road win against a team that fought hard," Freeman said. "We gave away too many points and need to clean that up going forward. We have to stick to the game we've been playing and continue executing our plan."
#23 Calhoun (15-2) will return to action on Friday, October 3, when the Warhawks travel to Vincennes University for the Showdown on the Wabash, taking on Wabash Valley College at 4 p.m.
